Disaster Releif for American Samoa and South East Asia
UCC sets $250,000 goal for aid to Southeast Asia and the Pacific http://www.ucc.org/news/ucc-sets-250000-goal-for.html
Since the Board of World Fellowship usually has funds for disasters, I hope that some funds will be sent to the UCC for this cause.
Although the majority religion of American Samoa is reputed to be Mormon, the UCC does have churches there and I have met people from there at Synod.
"According to Susan Sanders, the UCC's OGHS (One Great Hour of Sharing) administrator, the UCC responds to a disaster, on average, about once every two-and-a-half days. "To have three major disasters, in the same general area of the world, three days in a row is unprecedented in my experience," she said. "I'm grateful we have such a large, capable network of partners who are able to respond immediately, with assistance from OGHS gifts.""
"UCC members and staff have been in contact with church partners across the region expressing sympathy, compassion and offering support. One Great Hour of Sharing emergency solidarity grants are being sent to partners to assist with immediate relief efforts.
Our UCC church partners, including Church World Service and other members of Action by Churches Together, Intl. are conducting damage assessments, providing immediate relief of food, water and shelter and making plans for immediate and long term relief, recovery and rehabilitation."
